Mati & Tebow CURE Partner to Help Kids Heal

The signing of the MOA was attended by Tebow CURE Executive Director Peter Cowles and Tebow CURE Patient Support Services Director Ma. Elvielhyn Fernandez; the Mati City Mayor, Hon. Michelle Rabat; the City Health Officer of Mati, Dr. Ben Hur Catbagan Jr.; with CSWDO Head Mae Belle Fontillas and Councilor Roger Pabio as witnesses (left to right) on 14 April 2023.

Partnerships like this are crucial in providing life-changing surgeries to children in need. City Health Officer of Mati Dr. Ben Hur Catbagan Jr. stated, “The city of Mati has been directed by our Mayor to make a serious effort in addressing various health concerns and problems of our constituents. The time has come for us to partner with other organizations as we cannot handle all operations on our own. So we have partnered with a very good hospital in Davao City that has a heart for children with treatable conditions. . . We hope that [this partnership] will continue for a long time. . .”

Mobile clinics involve local pastors that can help counsel and pray for patients and caretakers as they start their healing journey.

CURE’s mobile clinics provide prevention and healthcare services where people work, live, and play. They play an important role in overcoming the barriers of time, money, and trust, and provide care to vulnerable populations. A mobile clinic is basically a doctor’s office on the go. We conduct mobile clinics in marginalized communities who would otherwise be unable to access quality orthopedic and reconstructive plastics medical care.

“Your biggest barrier to getting to the hospital is transportation. You’re three hours away so having a local government that will help with the transportation is critical because it doesn’t do any good to be here today to see all of you and say goodbye. We want to see you and say hello again when you come to Davao, that’s because we have partners who will help us to get you back and forth to the hospital. We’re so grateful for all the work that went into this; we are so grateful for this opportunity to sign a formal Memorandum of Agreement,” Executive Director Peter Cowles addressed the patients and families and Mati’s LGU during the MOA signing ceremony.

Mayor Hon. Michelle Rabat also added, “I am happy to see all the children present here; that after all, there is hope. We are lucky to be near Tebow CURE because it is the only CURE Hospital in Asia. Since they already offer zero billing for their surgical services, what we can help is provide allowances for our patients and parents. Let us thank God that after all, there is hope. Please extend our heartfelt gratitude to the sponsors and donors of this organization.”

A total of 72 patients to receive surgical treatment were identified and scheduled in the Mati Mobile Screening.

Tebow CURE Hospital has previously worked with the Davao Oriental Provincial Hospital in 2019 and has several pending MOAs with other municipalities and cities in the Davao Region. This partnership aligns with the mandate of the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines to protect and promote the right to health of the Filipino people and instill health consciousness among them. Furthermore, it is in line with the Universal Health Care Act’s aim to ensure that all Filipinos have equitable access to quality and affordable healthcare, goods, and services, as well as gain protection from financial risk.

The partnership is a significant step towards achieving the goal of providing access to quality healthcare to all Filipinos, especially those in need.
